The tendency of continuous growth of wood exploitation leads to the reduction of forest surfaces, and subsequently of habitats inhabited by large carnivores, appearing conflicts between the people and large carnivores. Traditional methods of preventing attacks upon animal herds, such as permanent monitoring by shepherds and watch dogs, are still used in Romania
Elsewhere are successfully used electric fences, as a more efficient and lease expensive alternative for preventing wild animals attacks upon herds. By using the electing fences systems are protected both the wild and domesticated animals.
The electric fence consists of wires conducting low electric impulses which induce to possible intruders a non-lethal shock. The energy used for these fences can be that of an auto battery or of solar panels.
In 2004, in the “In-situ conservation of large carnivores from Vrancea County“ LIFE02/Nat/RO/8576 project were deployed 6 Gallagher mobile fences, with 3 wire, on pastures from the Barsesti village.
